post no. 41 -- Happy Heart

Tips to Keep Your Heart Strong

Dump the Marlboro Man

Smoking is the #1 cause for heart disease in the United States. The nicotine in cigarettes narrows the arteries making you heart work twice as hard to get that blood pumping. And if you take birth control while smoking, your risk of a heart attack greatly increases after 35.

Get Your Groove On!

Dance, exercise, just get moving! 30 minutes of daily exercise is a very effective way of reducing the risk of heart related problems. Physical activity also helps maintain weight, and reduce the risk of other problems such as high cholesterol and diabetes. Plus the fact that it makes you happy! To quote Elle Woods: “Exercise gives you endorphins, endorphins make you happy, and happy people just don’t shoot their husbands!”

Get Your Grub On! The Good Way.

Eating well is another effective way to keep the risks low. Limiting fatty foods is a sure fire way to limit the opportunity for heart problemos.

Avoid fatty foods such as:
Red meat (Saturated)
Dairy products (Saturated)
Coconut and palm oils (Saturated)
Deep-fried fast foods (Trans)
Bakery products (Trans)
Packaged snack foods (Trans)
Margarines (Trans)
Crackers (Trans)

Step on the Scale

Odds are if you start following Steps #2 and #3 you are going to greatly see a reduction on #4. Eating well, and exercising often helps you shed the pounds. And shedding the pounds equals shedding the problems. Heart problems that is. Because weight gain is mostly fat, it can more than often lead to other problems mentioned above. Keeping weight gain in check has the benefits of a healthy heart for years to come.

Stay Friendly...

With your doctor! Regular check-ups are a key part of staying healthy. If you are running into any problems with Steps #1-4, your doctor will be able to help you get on track and see what isn’t working. Also, getting regularly screened for diabetes, cholesterol, and your blood pressure, can help you avoid any heart problems that might arise out of neglect.

post no. 40 -- What Inspires Me Wednesdays

This quote : I believe that attitude is every, and what better demonstrates an attitude/outlook we should all have that this little quote. If you want to have a great day, think a happy thought. Think about birds and trees, and bumbley bees. Life is beautiful, we just have to look around and see it.

Dory : Sometimes one of the best things we can allow ourselves is the innocence and ignorance of a child. Like Dory. By taking a step back from when the bills are due, and if we turned the TV off before we left, we can take time to think about what's really important in life, or... how to fit an elephant into a fridge.
Remember: Just keep swimming!

Baby's toes : They're so small, yet so complete.

Old Children's Books : From the animations, the the positive spin they put on everything. Read one, I bet you $50 it will brighten your day up, if not a lot, then at least just a smidgen.
(PS The little old man totally reminds me of Kristopher's grandpa Vic)

Outdoors : I love the outdoors. As soon as Kris is all healed up I can't wait to get hiking again. Find something you love to do, and do it!

post no. 39 -- Hubby Love

Kris has been feeling much better since his surgery, so I'm very happy about that. Hoping he continues to have a speedy recovery with Jack and they're both back to normal soon. His parents will be coming out soon to visit. Having not seen them since May, this visit will be a much needed dose of family. We're out soon to run some late night errands and then head off to bed before tomorrow. Just had to post a quick little note about the comings and goings of life, as if I haven't updated this enough today ;)

Tell me I don't have the cutest husband in the world. I'll tell you you're lying.
Sorry I just had to Kris...

post no. 38 -- Throw It In The Bag

Around the blogosphere everyone seems to be obsessed with everyone else's bags. I figured I'd join in on the  fun, and take some snapshots of my bag's belongings. I apologize for the picture quality (my camera got stolen, and we are still waiting for Kris' to come home to us from the ship).

Here's what's in there:

  • Mary Kay Make-Up Case
  • Mustard Yellow Wallet (Target)
  • Blackberry Tour 9630 - Verizon
  • Tattoo Appointment Card
  • Vegan Vermints
  • Composition Book
  • Mint Agenda (Barnes and Noble)
  • Moleskin Notebook
  • iPod Headphones/ Handsfree
  • Sunglasses
  • Kate Spade Blackberry Case
  • Hello Kitty Contact Case
  • Contact Solution
  • Hello Kitty Tissues
  • iPod Touch
  • Yellow iPod Sock

  • Covergirl Pressed Powder
  • Mascara
  • Revlon Lipstick
  • Keys
  • Loose Pens

Well folks, that is what's in my purse... What's in yours?!? Go ahead and leave me a comment, list, or even a link to your page so I can go stalk you back :) Encourage your readers to do the same and we can carry on the chain!

post no. 37 -- Perfect Day Pt. 2

If you've been following my blog, or by any chance know me, you know that I'm looking into starting a degree in Communication Arts with an emphasis in Design this fall. The one thing that appealed to me about a degree in a graphic design type program was the versatility. Since actually deciding to go forward with the design degree, I have actually had a lot of Career ADHD. I say ADHD instead of ADD because I don't just flip from one career path to the next, I get extremely excited about one idea and then bored, and then enthused again about something completely different. Every time I start to switch around, I feel guilty, and somewhat relieved I'm a girl, therefore not expected to be the stable breadwinner. Don't get me wrong, I do not at all believe that men should be the one's to carry the household, but I want to be fulfilled with the ultimate path I choose, as whatever I ultimately decide, I want to pursue for the rest of my life.

Before moving to Hawaii, I feel like everything was set. I worked for a reputable Structural Engineer with an Architect father deeply rooted in the construction industry. There wasn't a doubt in my mind, or for that matter, any one else's about what I was to be "when I grew up". Well guess what, this April I'll be 20 years old. I'm grown up. Some of you veterans out there might laugh at me, but I feel this urgency to figure things out already. Am I totally off? Since moving I feel as though things have completely flipped. I feel like this post is one of those Tell Alls where I divulge every feeling inside, and then somehow figure things out in the last sentence. I have no clue about the last sentence.

The other night Kris and I were talking about "Life Back Home", moreover the life we want to have when we finally get back to California. We talked about his perfectly painted Chevelle, our cottagey bungalow in a coastal southern city, and the hotel. We discussed babies, and Irish-Norwegian hockey practices when the babies grew up. I saw me wrapping up morning business in my small studio before toting babies from one Grandma's house to the other, and eating lunch with Kris at Watermarc. I saw my perfect little life.

The point of that little story was that in my perfect day scenario, I had a career that I could be creative in, that I could work independent hours from my home, and that made me happy. Something along these lines:

Hopefully I will be able to get this list a little bit more narrowed down before I have to officially grow up and figure things out. Any suggestions??

post no. 36 -- Findings of the Future!

Today's post is going to be a bit of a throw back. I have always been obsessed with the Jetson's and when The Incredibles was released I almost had a heart attack.

Mid-Century Modern Design is by far my favorite. My dad was always taking me to case study homes as a kid and something about the design of this time period always seemed to stick out to me. On my way into work this morning I started daydreaming about 21st century spins on the futuristic designs of the 50's and 60's, and what their little retro modern babies would look like. Enjoy the results!!

This awesome computer!!

Monsanto House of the Future

1950's Kitchens of the Future look a lot like modern IKEA Kitchens now...

Zivio Bluetooth Headset with a 1960's flavor.. love it!! Unfortunately it has been discontinued :(

And finally, the pièce de résistance...

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG
As my best friend Martha would say: Yummy!

Hope you enjoyed!!
